The body-scan is a meditation technique practiced in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course as well as in yoga and Vipassana. It is recommended to carry out this exercise lying on your back on a mat. In this exercise all our body regions are systematically explored mentally, beginning from the tips of the toes to the crown of the head. The method involves consciously perceiving all body sensations, thoughts, emotions, and feelings that occur during the exercise. Whatever arises is accepted as it is now without judging, grasping, or rejecting, classifying, or looking for possible causes. A body-scan develops a differentiated body awareness, presence and improves concentration. By attuning to the feeling aspect of the body, you re-inhabit your own body, live in the here and now, anchoring your experiencing in the body itself. The body-scan enables us to tap into the wisdom of the body and of ourselves.
